Walk/Run Marathon

Our 1st Annual Walk/Run Marathon was a great success.  Our students who participated had a great time and everyone was a winner !  We thank our parents and all the volunteers who helped with this event.

Great turn out !

WGE had another successful Read Aloud Day Event on Friday, March 7, 2014.   Many important guests came to read to our wonderful students.  Our readers came from all over and included: Board Member Edgar Cisneros, Superintendent of Education Susanna Contreras-Smith, WGE retired teachers, Schurr Principal Stacey Honda, MUSD Police, Highway Patrol, Firemen and a Representative from Gloria Molina's Office, City of Commerce Library, City Councilwoman Christina Cortez, parents, our own WGE teachers, and various community members.   We thank each and every one of you for taking time from your busy schedule to visit WGE students!

The Seal of Biliteracy

seal of biliteracy.jpgThe Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by a school, school district, or county office of education in recognition of students who have studied and attained  proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation.

The Seal of Biliteracy appears on the transcript or diploma of the graduating senior and is statement of accomplishment for future employers and for college admissions.

The State Seal of Biliteracy is intended to:

Recognize students who have acquired proficiency in English and additional

  • Encourage the learning of all languages
  • Emphasize the value of knowing many languages
  • Contribute to global understanding
  • Promote language learning as a lifelong endeavor
